Sharing the history of San Francisco’s First Responders

Welcome to the Guardians of the City Museum

Guardians of the City (GOTC) Museum was founded as the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) Museum in 1964 to preserve and share the history of San Francisco’s First Responders: the SFFD, San Francisco Police Department, San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, and Emergency Medical Services. The volunteer-run GOTC Museum tells the story of the City’s First Responders, beginning with the Gold Rush-era of the 1850s.

The Museum is located at 655 Presidio Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94118. It is open Thursdays through Sundays, 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm as our volunteer docent schedule allows.

Visitors to our Museum will see historic fire engines and equipment, beautiful pieces of art, and amazing photos.

GOTC is a Federal tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)(3) California Corporation and has been recognized by the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco, Resolution #246-12 on June 19, 2012. Non-profit tax ID number (EIN): 27-0251279
